The Building and Flooring Contractors for the new store

Alex Nicholls, Colston Ltd

Colston Ltd and Alex are the ones in charge of renovating the new Hailsham store. Based in Eastbourne, they specialise in commercial and residential building works. Helping with a full refurbishment including ceiling assessemnt and repair, partitions, interior spaces and exterior fabric.

Here’s what Alex said before the renovation works began…

1. What are you most looking forward to working on with this project?

I really enjoy working on old, properly old, buildings and this one goes back to the 16th century. It is doubly interesting as Hailsham is my home town so it’s great to be involved with something so well known and part of our town.

2. What do you think the biggest challenge will be?

The hardest part of the refurbishment of an old building is knowing when to stop. It is possible to replace everything but that is not the target of preservation. We will be more sympathetic both to the building and to our client's budget;

3. What hurdles do you think you’ll have to overcome?

All the buildings in the high street are wedged in cheek by jowl so the connections between them are tight. Also making sure we hit the opening date and the budget is always a challenge.

Richard Carr, Image Contract Flooring

Richard and team have been in charge of replacing the flooring at our new store. At Image Contract Flooring their focus is attention to detail, expert advice and professional installation. They supply carpets, carpet tiles, linoleum, vinyl or timber flooring.

Here’s what Richard said back in November before the refubushishment works started…

What are you most looking forward to working on with this project?

Working with Michael, Roy and the Furniture Now! team as well as having an input on creating and designing an amazing space.

Due to the building being a blank canvas, I feel there is so much potential and it’s great to be a part of this exciting project! They are a fantastic local company who supports the local community.

  1. What do you think the biggest challenge will be?

The biggest challenge is the age of the building. You never know what you’ll uncover until you start working on it…

  1. What hurdles do you think you’ll have to overcome?

Hopefully, there won’t be any and it will all go smoothly - fingers crossed for a plain sailing renovation project!
